Students prepare for a ‘magical’ family weekend

September 16, 2011

This year’s family weekend will be “magical” as both comedian magician Michael Kent and hypnotist Tom Deluca are set to appear.

Michael Kent, or “Comic, Magician, Smart @$$” as his website calls him, is best known for his audience-incorporated tricks that are simultaneously believable and humorous. This will be Kent’s second visit to campus after his well-received visit in 2009. Kent’s show is free of charge and will be in the Dahl Chapel on Friday night at 8 p.m.

Famed Hypnotist Tom Deluca will also be making an appearance Saturday night at 9 p.m. in the Dahl Chapel.  ASAP reported Wednesday that over 350 tickets have already been reserved for the show and that more are expected to attend. Deluca’s show is also free of charge, but reserving a ticket is recommended in order to guarantee a seat.

Family Weekend is always one of the biggest events on campus and, according Jennifer Wheeler, president of ASAP. ASAP and the school works hard on making the families feel comfortable,

“As long as the families leave feeling entertained and welcomed on campus,” said Wheeler, “we have done our job as a student programming board.”

Some other events to look forward to are ASAP’s co-sponsored 5k run/walk Saturday morning at 8 a.m. and the famed inflatables on the quad at 1 p.m., and free laundry weekend.
