Monmouth’s Bowden Claims Weekly League Honor

October 20, 2011

MONMOUTH, Ill. – Monmouth College’s Rachel Bowden (Lexington, Ill./Lexington) led the Fighting Scots to a win at last week’s cross country meet and was named the Midwest Conference Performer of the Week for her efforts.

With Bowden’s help the Fighting Scots won the Illinois College Invitational for the second consecutive year. Bowden placed second in the 6K field of nearly 80 runners. She posted a time of 23:07 to place just 15 seconds out of the lead.

A junior physical education major, Bowden is also a two-time all-conference performer in cross country. She also was part of two track relay records as a freshman. In 2010, she teamed with Katie Staab, Morgan Leffel and Mary Kate Beyer to set the indoor distance medley record. In the outdoor season that year, she was joined by Staab, Lindsie Pettie and Aron Jackson to set the new school mark in the 4×800 relay. As a sophomore last spring, Bowden ran on the record-setting outdoor distance medley with Beyer, Leffel and Alyssa Edwards.
