Scots’ Blodgett and Tanney on National Football Watch List

December 1, 2011

MONMOUTH, Ill. – Monmouth College senior record setters Mike Blodgett (Northfield, Minn./Appleton North) and Alex Tanney (Normal, Ill./Lexington) have been placed on a national football watch list.

The D3 Senior Classic has placed the tandem on their national watch list after outstanding senior seasons. Monmouth ended the season as Division III’s most prolific offense, averaging more than 520 yards per game. The Scots also had the nation’s No. 3 passing offense, producing more than 330 yards per game, and they were fifth in scoring with more than 44 points per game.

A wide receiver, Blodgett broke more than 15 school records. He caught a pass in 45 consecutive games, just two off the national record. He was named all-conference three times. A multi-sport athlete, Blodgett is also a two-time conference champion in track and field, winning the indoor long jump and the outdoor triple jump last year.

Tanney set the NCAA all-divisions touchdown passing record with 157 career TDs. He holds nearly every Monmouth passing record and has twice been named a Gagliardi Trophy finalist. He was also named the Midwest Conference Offensive Player of the Year three times in addition to winning the Melberger Award in 2009 as the division’s top player.

The Scots compiled a 38-9 record during the fifth-year seniors’ careers, winning three conference titles and earning an NCAA playoff berth each year.
