Women’s Basketball breaks three school records

February 3, 2012

The Monmouth College Fighting Scots women’s basketball team has put in quite the successful season thus far.

The Fighting Scots women currently have a 9-3 record in the Midwest Conference.

The team hopes this strong regular season record will give them a berth into the Midwest Conference tournament for a chance to enter the NCAA championship playoff.

In their most recent game, the Fighting Scots defeated Lake Forrest College, 82-56.

The Scots took the lead from the Forresters four minutes into the game and began to establish their dominance. The Fighting Scots women went on a 31-10 run right before the half that set the tone for the rest of the game.

In addition to the recent victory over Lake Forrest, the Fighting Scots women’s basketball team has had other high-note performances while most students were off for winter break.

One notable performance was when the Scots played against the Knox College Prairie Fire. Monmouth had a record day against Knox, breaking three school records in a single game.

The first record came at the close of the first half when Monmouth put up a staggering 62 points against Knox. After the record breaking first half, the Scots did not let up.

Another record was broken when the Scots bettered their performance from the first half and scored 65 points.

The final record that the Scots took on Jan. 7 against the Prairie Fire was the total points scored in a single game record. The Fighting Scot women put up 127 points to Knox’s 90.

The women’s basketball team is hoping to bring their success with them to Wisconsin this weekend.

The Fighting Scots will be making the trip to face Midwest Conference competition. They will start off the weekend against St. Norbert on Friday, Feb. 3, before making the trip to the southern edge of Wisconsin to play against Beloit College the following day.
