Drew Peterson was convicted of murdering his ex-wife

Will County Judge Edward Burmila sentenced Peterson to 38 years in prison in the murder of his third ex-wife, Kathleen Savio. The story didn’t make headlines until Peterson’s fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, went missing, and the case of Savio’s death was reopened. Peterson’s attorney says they will be appealing the decision, and the four years that Peterson has already served will count towards the years he was sentenced.
Bringing home the bacon

With a new rounding of federal spending cuts about to take effect March 1, Americans may have to dig a little deeper into their piggy banks if they want their bacon. Cuts to food safety programs mean that processing plants for meat will have to close for as long as 15 days, leading to shortages in beef, chicken, pork, and eggs, by as much as two billion pounds of meat.

I spy with my bionic eye…

The FDA has approved the first ever bionic eye. While it doesn’t restore completely, it does allow recipients to detect light and dark. The eye is intended for those who suffer from retinitis pigmentosa, a disease that slowly deteriorates the vision of one in ever 4,000 people. While the number of people who can receive the device is pretty narrow, it will hopefully pave the way for more advanced research.
