Scots Market to begin trial hours
March 1, 2013
Students who need a quick coffee or snack fix before 10 a.m. will be pleased with Scots Market. Starting this Monday, Mar. 4, Scots Market will be opening at 8:30 a.m. for a trial week to determine if there is a need for earlier hours. The week will be a trial run, meaning it depends on student behavior if these earlier hours are permanent.
“The need for earlier hours was brought up by students from the Associated Students of Monmouth College (ASMC). Students have been unable to get anything to eat or drink early in the morning outside of the Main Dining Room or Einstein’s Bagels,” said Kayla Corzine, Student Body Student Affairs Officer for ASMC.
If students utilize Scots Market during the trial hours this week, the early hours could become permanent according to Ron Jones, Aramark employee.
“I think this will add convenience for students that have classes early in the morning,” Jones said.
Students also want the hour change in order to purchase items during a more convenient time.
“It’s difficult to get to the cafe for breakfast when you have classes back-to-back in the mornings, so this will be a good opportunity to do that,” said freshman LaShawn Cargo.
Freshman Amber Berge also agrees with Cargo. “I think that the earlier hours would be great for people getting out or going to class… I don’t always have time to go to the cafe or to wait at Einstein’s for food,” Berge said.
After next week, it will be determined if the earlier hours will stay, but for now, students can test out the early morning convenience.
