Haunted houses, mazes abound

October 31, 2014

Fake paranormal activity, masked villains and scary clowns chasing you: What more could you want for the Halloween season? This year there are many haunted houses and corn mazes that are close to the Monmouth area.

The first that was right on campus was the Sigma Phi Epsilon Annual Haunted House, which occured on Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the fraternity complex.

Junior Sidney Rose said, “Last year it was a fun experience getting scared by fellow classmates. Some parts were pretty scary.”

Another close haunted house that is in the area is at the Blue Moonlight Drive-In in Galesburg, Illinois. The haunted house is located at 2875 W Main St. on Friday Oct. 31 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. It is a $10 experience.

You will be semi-guided through the haunted house through the grounds of the drive-in. Make sure you wear your tennis shoes. After the haunted house is done, the drive in will host a special screening of Rob Zombie’s “Halloween,” which is $10 per carload.

If you are not interested in haunted houses there is a flashlight corn maze that is located in Alpha, Illinois. The maze is located at 5333 U.S. Highway 150. The maze is Friday and Saturday from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. It is $6 to go through the maze and they recommend that you bring your own flashlight because they have a limited supply.

Another activity that you can enjoy in Alpha is a new nighttime activity called Zombie Paintball Train. You will take a ride on a train and shoot zombies and other targets on the ride. The paintball guns are supplied and it is only $12.

Finally, if you are looking for some haunted houses in the same area, you can take a drive to the Quad City area. A couple of the haunted houses are The Shock House and QC Factory of Fear.

The Shock House is at the QCCA Expo Center in Rock Island, Illinois at 2621 4th Ave. On Friday Oct. 31 it is open from 7 p.m. to 12 p.m. and is $13 a person.

The QC Factory of Fear is the largest indoor haunted attraction in the QC area and is located in Moline, Illinois at 5027 4th Ave. It is open Friday and Saturday from 7 p.m. to 12 p.m. and is $14 a person.

Each haunted house will give you a $1 off if you bring a canned good. Or, if you decide to go to both of these haunted houses, there is a special that you can go through both for $20.
