Special guest Suda joins Moschenross for recital

November 21, 2014

Courtesy of Anne Suda - The MC community will host guest cellist Anne Suda at this Saturday's recital, which begins at 7:30 p.m. in Dahl Chapel.

This Saturday will see Anne Suda and Ian Moschenross together in an artist recital. Suda will be playing the cello while Moschenross will accompany on piano.

Playing a wide variety of styles and music, Suda is eager to show off the abilities of the cello. “I like to share what the cello can do,” said Suda. “The cello is very versatile, so it’s cool to share that with an audience.”

Suda comes from a strong music background. Her mother, Carolyn Suda, is a professor of music at Monmouth College, while her father is an Emeritus Professor of Humanities. She learned how to play the cello from her mother, though she took lessons in Chicago as a child as well.

She went on to extensively study music. “I live in San Francisco where I received my Master of Music degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. I went to Vanderbilt Univeristy for my Bachelor of Music degree and double majored in English. I enjoy performing chamber music and solo concerts throughout the United States and in Europe.”

Moschenross is excited to team up in concert with Suda. “I have been having a great time working with Anne this week in preparing her program. She is a world-class artist and I am excited to make music with her.”

Suda shares his excitement. “I am excited to team up with pianist Dr. Ian Moschenross to present this concert. The program will feature works from a wide range of time periods and styles, written by composers of different nationalities. I will be opening and closing the concert with two fun Spanish-inspired pieces: Intermezzo from the opera Goyescas by Enrique Granados, and Sérénade espagnole by Alexander Glazunov. Also on the program is the unaccompanied Kodály Sonata, inspired by Hungarian folk songs, and works by Haydn, Debussy, and Shostakovich.”

In addition to her excitement playing with Moschenross, Suda is happy to be back in Monmouth. “I love performing here. The audience is always great!”

The concert will be this Saturday, Nov. 22, at 7:30 p.m. in Dahl Chapel.

“The College community is fortunate to have a connection with someone like Anne,” said Moschenross. “She has returned to her hometown (Monmouth) periodically to share her talents and the community is richer for it. If you attend, you will not be disappointed. Anne is a superb artist who plays with a beautiful sound, breathtaking technique and exquisite musicianship.”
