The Chicago Cubs returned to court this week. The Lakeview Baseball Club and Skybox on Sheffield Avenue put in a request for an emergency restraining order last week to stop the installation of video scoreboards and advertising at the field due to obstructed views from the buildings. On Thursday a judge ruled in favor of the Cubs as the “vague possibility” of obstruction was not enough to halt construction.

On Tuesday, the St. Louis Blues fell to the Dallas Stars 4-1 at home.

Last Thursday, the Chicago Bulls defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 113-98 in Chicago.

After much speculation, it was confirmed this week that the New York Knicks’ Carmelo Anthony will have surgery on his knee. The surgery will bench Anthony for the rest of the season.

Two great hockey rivals met on Wednesday night in Chicago to face off. The Detroit Redwings beat the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 in a close game.

On Thursday, the NFL announced that it fired the employee who sold the footballs for the AFC Championship game with the New England Patriots versus the Indianapolis Colts.

The NCAA placed West Virginia on probation this week for recruiting violations across 14 different sports. A release sent out from the NCAA said that coaches in each of these sports, “sent impermissible texts and placed impermissible calls to parents” from 2010 to 2013. The sports committing these infractions included both men and women’s sports of basketball, swimming and diving, track and field, soccer, gymnastics, volleyball, baseball, football, tennis and rowing. Some sports committed “Level II” infractions while the rest committed “Level III” infractions.

Wednesday marked the 14th anniversary of Dale Earnhardt’s tragic death at the Daytona 500. His son, Dale Earnhardt Jr., continues to race in NASCAR and acknowledged his death on Twitter as a commemoration that he lived instead of mourning his death.

The Chicago Fire are looking ahead to have a strong season as their first game is March 6.
