Scots Thrash Blueboys for Homecoming Vistory

October 11, 2015

The Alumni left happy this weekend after the Scots thrashed the Blueboys 35-7. The Scots remain undefeated in conference as Illinois College falls to 1-4 on the season.

The Scots put up 28 points in the first half to all but secure a win in front of the Monmouth fans. The Blueboys were able to punch in a touchdown on their second drive of the game, but the Scots defense shut down their offense for the remainder of the game.

The Homecoming game was lead by a dominating rushing performance that averaged 6.8 yards every time a Monmouth player carried the football. Three different Monmouth rushers reached the end zone in the first quarter to secure an early 21-7 lead. The defense picked off the Blueboys quarterback late in the first quarter to setup up the 2-yard touchdown run by sophomore running back Austin Ray.

The game was put away after junior quarterback Tanner Matlick punched one in from the 1-yard line with seven minutes remaining in the 2nd quarter. Matlick contributed 88 rushing yards while also throwing for 125 yards and tossed a touchdown pass to junior receiver Brock Thomas in the first quarter.

The Scots got another touchdown run in from Ray in the fourth quarter to end the offensive onslaught. The defense was lead by freshman Thomas Lesniewski who sacked the quarterback four times and forced a fumble that set up a touchdown in the first half.

The Scots will host Lake Forest college on Saturday, October 17th. The game time is set for 1 PM at April Zorn Memorial Stadium.
