Unsung Hero

November 6, 2015

Marci Switzer is the first smiling face you see when you walk into the Office of Residence Life. She is your go-to gal when you’re having roommate issues or are thinking about switching residence halls.

As the Administrative Assistant to Residence Life and Housing, this is one of the many things Switzer deals with on a daily basis. Setting up discipline meetings, answering housing questions and interacting with residence life staff also falls under Switzer’s job description.

Her warm smile and happy demeanor make all who walk in her office feel at ease. “My favorite part about my job is helping the students. I’m very passionate about that,” Switzer says about her position.

Switzer has worked for Monmouth College for five and a half years and when asked if she plans on being here for another five and a half, she replies jokingly, “Absolutely, I have kids to put through college!”

She says that even though her work can get busy and stressful, interacting with the students makes it all worthwhile. “I love everything about my job, including the people I work with. It just makes your job easier when everybody can work together well,” she says in between laughs with her coworker, Heather Fisher.

Switzer was born in Galesburg, Illinois and graduated from Knoxville High School. She has resided in Monmouth since 1995, and has been married to her husband, Joe, for 19 years. Together they have two children, Blake, a senior in high school, and Addison, a fifth grader. When Marci is not at work she can be found spending time with her family. In her free time she enjoys shopping and decorating her house. Switzer has been and will continue to be an asset to the Monmouth College Residence Life in the years to come.
