Scots race past quick rivals

February 5, 2016

On Saturday the men’s and women’s track teams travelled to Whitewater, Wisconsin to face their fastest competition so far this season. The men competed on Friday night at the Squig Converse Invitational, while the women competed on Saturday at the Warhawk Classic.

The Scots travelled with a reduced team to the meet, but that didn’t hold the teams back from having successful meets.

The men’s 4×400 relay ran the fastest time in the nation on Friday. Adam Parr, James Wilson, Matt Trainor and Ethan Reschke ran two seconds faster than their seed time, breaking the tape in 3:19.94. The Scots now have a top-ten national mark in four events.

Reschke is also third in the nation in the 400-meter dash after Friday’s meet with a time of 49.40. Hurdler Payton Holmes tied his personal-best in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.44, good for third in the event.

“We competed well with some of the best teams in the nation,” said Holmes. “We have a lot of potential and I can’t wait to see how everyone performs at conference and nationals.”

Freshman Timmy Williams placed fifth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.05, while senior Adam Parr placed fifth in the 200-meter dash, clocking a time of 22.85. Pole-vaulter Dan Evers tied for fourth with a vault of 14’9”.

The women also had a successful showing on Saturday. Freshman Cynthia Myers scored in two events. She joined Joanna Podosek, Thea Bloom and Isabella Kosier to run a 4:11.19 in the 4×400, which was good enough for eighth place.

Ashley Castellanos and Madi Schulenburg also helped out the Scots scoring in the jumps with a pair of top seven performances.

Ashley Castellanos and Madi Schulenburg also helped out the Scots scoring in the jumps with a pair of top seven performances. Castellanos was able to jump 34’0-¾” in the triple jump, while Schulenburg’s high jump of 5’1” was good enough for seventh.

The Scots will travel to Bloomington this weekend to compete at the Bob Keck Invitational at Illinois Wesleyan University.
