Scots get into top speed for conference

February 26, 2016

This weekend, the Monmouth track team split their teams in order to prepare for the Midwest Conference Championship.

Four of the Fighting Scots from the men’s team went to North Central Cardinal Opener Friday night and set some of the fastest time ever.

James Wilson, Adam Parr, Matt Trainor and Ethan Reschke ran a Monmouth honor roll time of 3:17.80 in the 4×400 relay to place second by 15 one-hundredths of a second to Division II Lewis University.

Pole vaulters Joe Ward and Evers cleared their personal best heights. Ward won his event with a height of 16’1-1/4” to rank seventh in the nation while Evers’ mark of 15’10” placed him third at the meet and 10th nationally.

“This past weekend at Illinois College went great for our whole team,” said Evers. “We saw improvements throughout every event. My personal best coming into the meet was 15’2.75” so vaulting 15’10” this past weekend increased my personal best record by 7 inches.”

Briana Gardner led the way in the 60-yard dash with an 8.05. Beka Wollenburg and TaShea’ Tinglin set their own PRs of 8.06 and 8.13. Caitlyn Allen, Alex Dupont and Amy Wollenburg crossed the 3K finish line that order.

Lilly Mendez led a 1-2 finish in the shot put with 39’5”. Emily Weedman took second at 34’8-1/4”. De’Janaie Matthews took first in the weight throw with a 42’4” performance and John Hintz took the top honor in the men’s weight with a mark of 52’7-1/4”.

“At our past meet we saw some much improvement and got multiple personal bests at the Green Invite,” said freshman Zachary Schmidt. “From sprinting to jumping to throwing, we had huge leaps to our goals and it was a successful meet.”

The Scots make the drive to Galesburg, IL next weekend for the Midwest Conference Championships hosted by Knox College.
