Franco Wins #100 for Scots
April 15, 2016
Michelle Ravel / The Courier - Senior Marco Franco won two matches against Knox for his 100th career victory as a Fighting Scot.
The Scots added four wins to their overall record by going 4-0 against a set of conference rivals. Senior Marco Franco reached an important milestone in his career by winning his 100th following a dominant performance on Wednesday afternoon.
“It was crazy,” said Franco. “I didn’t even know until the match was finished that I hit the century mark. It just shows how much hard work and commitment pays off. I owe all of that to my brother and my father and coach Jordan, they all have pushed me to my limits and it’s paying off. Individual acqulades are nice, but I’m all about the team. I was happy that we got the victory and keep our goal of winning conference still alive.”
Wednesday’s match against conference rival Knox College also celebrated the team’s seniors. Not a single player that donned the Monmouth College uniform lost their match en route to a dominating 9-0 shutout of the Prairie Fire.
Monmouth’s play against Knox was so impressive that Knox managed to score a mere five points in a total of nine tennis matches on Monmouth’s home court.
The Scots will return to action this Saturday as they travel over to Iowa for to face a pair of conference opponents. The Scots will face Grinnell College at 9 a.m. and will take on Cornell College at 3 p.m. The Scots are now 7-7 overall with an undefeated record of 5-0 in conference play.
