Men’s Tennis surging forward

The Scots beat the Illinois Wesleyan Titans 6-3 on Tuesday following a week in which the men’s tennis team went 2-1. On Sunday, The Scots were bested 9-0 at the hands of Grinnell College and then followed up their loss with a victory by winning a close 5-4 matchup against Cornell College.

The Scots benefitted from undefeated days by sophomore Saxon Day and freshman Kevin Lewis. Lewis won his singles competition by taking both sets by a score of 6-2 and then paired with sophomore Dylan Wong in the doubles competition to win 8-1 over their Illinois Wesleyan opponents.

Day split sets against his singles competition opponent by winning the first set 6-3 and then dropped the second set with a score of 2-6. Day then won the tie breaker 10-5 to win his singles competition. Day paired with sophomore Landon Walker to best the Titans 8-2 in their doubles competition.

Senior Marco Franco continued to add to his impressive career win total by taking both sets in his singles competition. Franco won both sets with a score of 6-2. Sophomore Paulo Pliego rounded out the Scots victors by taking both sets of his singles completion with a score 6-1 over his opponent.

On the season, the Scots are now 9-8 overall with a 6-1 conference record. The Scots have just two remaining matches on the season before the Midwest Conference championships start on April 29th.
