In Response to New Title VI coordinator position to create inclusivity by Julianna Graf, April 22nd, 2016 issue of The Courier
As a student who has taken the Title IX survey four times now, I hope the inclusion of Title VI education will bring some kind of reform to the system. Taking the same survey year after year not only becomes tedious, but it also detracts from the seriousness of the subject matter. Just like many others, when I get the “urgent” email to take the quiz, it’s almost a joke.
Granted the subject is very serious, but the questions are obvious to anyone who isn’t a complete sociopath. Clearly, with the school being under investigation for Title IX issues, this method has not been very effective. Considering the diversity on this campus—especially relative to its very rural location—I can only hope that the addition of a Title VI coordinator will ensure a more effective way of educating the student body on OCR statutes.
