Women’s Golf First at meet
September 16, 2016
The men’s and women’s golf team both had a very successful weekend. The women’s team took first overall (356) in their tournament with outstanding performances from Annie Sandrock (83) and Tanner Garey (84) as they got second and third overall to help the Scots win the tournament. They also got some supporting scores from Kate Ryan, 90 and Carly Gonet, 99. If the women can continue to post very solid scores, there is no reason that their success won’t continue throughout the rest of the fall season. The women look to hit the ball well as they host their two-day tournament this weekend at Gibson Woods.
As for the men they placed third shooting a 298, much improved from their 319 last week at Lake Bracken. The Scots got another terrific effort from Junior transfer Nate Hopper as he goes low again, shooting 73. When I asked Hopper how he’s been able to make such an immediate impact on the team he responded with, “I’ve really been putting a lot of work into my short game. Just trying to put myself in a position to get up and down every hole is really important for my game”. Hopper looks to continue his success this coming weekend at the Midwest Region Classic in Galena.
Another large part to the Scots great tournament was senior, Nate Jacobs as he has a bounce back week shooting a dazzling 68. The previous week Jacobs shot an 89 and I asked him what he was able to do this week differently, “My game has been all mental. I didn’t make any swing adjustments in between tournaments it has been all mental” Jacobs said. Jacobs and the rest of the men’s team hope to continue to make the game of golf fun and also to keeping rolling into the fall season.
