Many students and their families enjoyed the Monmouth College annual family weekend September 16 – 18. There were many events for the families to participate in, including brunch, bouncy houses, and watching the Monmouth College Football team take on Ripon in the conference opener.

Besides those events, Monmouth hosted its third annual Family Weekend 5k run. The event started at 8 A.M. and went until 10 A.M. on Saturday morning. Surprisingly, there were 65 registered runners but only 25 showed up for the event.

Even with the low turnout family weekend coordinator Callie Cook was pleased, “We expected more families to come out and run but I am proud of the number of families that were here, it’s nice to see families getting out and being active together while having fun. You don’t see that too often anymore.”

The fastest time recorded for the run was twenty-one minutes and 3 seconds. However, many of the families chose to walk the course which started at the Huff Athletic Center and ran all the way to Rainbow Riders. Many of the families took this time to catch up with their child and hear about their school year so far.

“It was nice to be able to get out and enjoy this beautiful weather with my mom and get to tell her about my school year so far as well”, stated Monmouth College Freshman Hunter Todd.

This wasn’t the only family that was impressed by the wonderful weather Saturday, many others thought that the day was simply amazing for the annual 5k run. Not only was the run successful but many of the other events presented to the families were as well.
