Top four lead golf to 5th place

October 7, 2016

Last weekend the Fighting Scots Men’s golf team fired a 620 placing them 5th in a field of 15 really good teams and just three strokes behind the second place team who shot 617. The team left some strokes out there; having about 14 three putts on the second day. Minimizing those would have easily moved them into the second place position.

Junior Logan Moothart commented about the Scots putting struggles he said, “The greens were difficult, they were like putting on glass. The undulation of the greens really threw everyone off, but we still shot very well in a tough field and this gives us confidence going forward knowing that we were right there.” The Scots receive great scores from their top four as only five strokes separated the four of them. (Jacobs, 153, Monroe, 156, Kreiter, 157, Hopper, 158, Moothart, 161) The Men have this week off as they gear up for the weekend of October 15 and travel to Augustana for the final tournament of the fall season.

For the last tournament there is an opportunity for some of the other players on the team to show what they can do as the Scots take twelve players instead of five. Freshman like Austin Cook and Sam Gillen could show what they have to offer making things interesting when spring season comes around.
