Watch out Miss America, Xi Man is coming for you! Friday night became host to a male beauty pageant, a philanthropic fundraiser presented by Alpha Xi Delta. Another successful year, the women, with help from the 13 male contestants were able to donate over $11,000 to Autism Speaks. In the meantime, the crowd at Dahl Chapel were entertained to the many talents, outfits, and answers the men took part in.
Starting with a group dance, guests were captivated by the choreography that the set the tone for the rest of the night. As the talent portion ensued, there were a variety of acts to keep the fans amused. Senior Cole Trickel surprised fans with what he says was “a last minute” decision to chug a pepsi. Ladies in the crowd swooned over Amadeo Arroyo’s singing to “My Girl.” Colton Evans won the hearts of SpongeBob fans as he was joined onstage with his Phi Delta Theta Fraternity brothers to perform the classic “When I Ripped My Pants.”
As the night continued the contestants each were given a choice between a funny or serious question to be answered in front of the audience. No matter the type of question, there was always a comical response.
When the curtain began to close, the judges turned in their votes and the winners were announced. Awards were given to each individual. “Best DJ” honored Martin Zafirov, also known as DJ Martiiiiiiiin. Aaron Kimzey was awarded the “Best School Spirit” for his harmonious playing of the bagpipes. Last year’s Xi Man, Sujith Santhosh, crowned senior Chandler Jones as the 2017 winner. Arturo Monroy joined him on stage as First Runner-Up followed by Colton Evans and Connor Armstrong. Congratulations to all the contestants of this year’s Xi Man, and to the ladies of Alpha Xi Delta for putting on such an amaXIng event!
