Monmouth softball took on two conference opponents this past week. They faced off against Ripon College on Saturday and then took on St. Norbert College on Sunday. The Scots weren’t able to come away with a win against in either of the double headers.

In the Scots first game against Ripon the game went without a run for the first four innings before Ripon took advantage of two Monmouth errors in the top of the 5th to take a 1-0 lead. The Scots would tie the game up in the bottom of the seventh thanks to a solo homer from Rebecca Gallis. The game would go to extra innings and Ripon was able to take control with a run in the top of the tenth. The Scots weren’t able to come back and lost 2-1.

Ripon would take an early lead in game two but the Scots were able to string some hits together in the bottom of the second inning to cut the Redhawk’s lead in half. Ripon would score one run in the fourth and two in the fifth to take a commanding 5-1 lead. Monmouth would score once in the fifth and the seventh but it wasn’t enough as they lost another close one 5-3.

The Scots would take on St. Norbert College the next day in another double header. In game one the Scots would strike first in the bottom of the fourth and would score again in the sixth inning to take a 2-0 lead going into the final inning. St. Norbert would mount a rally and score six runs in the top of the seventh to take a 6-2 lead. Monmouth tried to get a rally of their own going as Gallis homered for the third time in as many games, but the Scots would fall to the Knights 6-4.

St. Norbert had a strong start in the second game to take a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Monmouth would get a run in the fifth inning but the Knights would end up with a 6-1 victory.

The Fighting Scots will finish off their regular season this weekend. They will travel to Janesville, WI on Saturday to take on Lawrence University.
