Dorm room digs

September 8, 2017

Dorm, Sweet Dorm! It’s your home away from home. The place where you crash after a long day. The room in which you host weekend bangers. The ultimate bachelor/ette pad! It is a true reflection of those that live there. Despite the small space, students on campus have expressed their creative skills and are proud to show off their roommate’s mess, MTV Cribs style. If you’re looking for inspiration, look no further. This is a special column, MC Dorm Digs.

A popular college decoration that adorn the walls of Pattee and Bowers Halls can be found in the aisles of your local grocery store. Serving double duty, a great way to add some flavor to the bland walls is by recycling old alcoholic beverage cardboard. It’s like, business in back, party in the front.
If you don’t want your parents questioning your alcoholic intake, another great dorm style, favored by women on campus, is the use of some artistic tapestries. Not only do they fill the large, blank walls, but they come in a variety of colors and patterns to fit the rooms’ vibe.

Though futons are not allowed in the residence halls here on campus, there are plenty of alternatives. My personal favorite, the moon chair. A giant circular chair, great for naps and getting nothing done. Coming in at a close second is a bean bag chair. They are easy to move, fun to relax on, and make you one with the floor.
Or maybe, you like to keep it simple. Only the necessities. Less work and more room to play. Keep the TV’s at bay, hang a “Saturday’s Are for the Boys” flag and keep the refrigerator nearby. Whatever your style may be, be sure to express yourself. Is it Live in 235? Is it the Dirty 128? Is it known as Club Sticky? Or is it simply, Room 312? Let your style determine the vibe, but always, keep it comfy. Welcome home, Scots.
