Cross country improving steadily

September 15, 2017

This past Saturday, the Fighting Scots cross country team continued their season competing in the 56th annual Les Duke Invitational hosted by Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa.

In the women’s 6K race, the Scots had an excellent showing throughout their roster. Placing 8th, Senior Joana Podsek (23:02) led off for the Scots. Following close behind Podosek, senior Stephanie Saey (23:24) and junior Caitlyn Allen (23:43) formed a two-person pack placing 17th and 19th.

Three more Scots came rolling into the finish which consisted of senior Kelci Foss (24:48), freshman Teagan McKenna (25:30), and junior Kate Saulcy (25:40). After this strong group, junior Natalia Bobak (26:07), junior Jessica Salinas (27:58), and freshman Julia Sterr (28:43) rounded the Scots successful unit.

The Scots placed 4th as a team in a competitive field and are hoping to use this momentum rolling into the rest of the season.

In the men’s 8K the Scots also represented well. Leading the Scots, senior Cooper Pauley (25:57) placed 10th running with the lead pack. Backing up Pauley, junior Tate Heiple (26:55) placed 28th.

Following close behind the two front runners, freshman Griffin Morrill (28:25), junior Tyler Bland (29:37), and sophomore Mike Bersell (29:39) all ran hard pushing one another. Running hard and finishing for the Scots was sophomore Tanner Heiple (30:29).

Along with these exciting race results, the Scots are also excited that teammates freshman Kirsten Menke, juniors Jay Gray and Brandon Allsop, and seniors Isabella Kosier and Amy Wollenburg are all making great strides towards recovery and making a comeback and competing for the Scots.

The Scots cross country team will continue their season on September 22nd at Augustana’s Brissman-Lundeen Invite.
