On Friday and Saturday, the women’s golf team hosted their annual Fighting Scot Invite.

Monmouth had a strong first round on Friday, ending the day with three people in the top 10. Haley Hoekstra led the team with a 76 in the first round which was good enough for the lead heading into day two.

Carly Gonet found herself in third place at the end of the round as she shot an 81, while Mamie Ambrosch found herself in the top 10 with and 89. Kristen Worner and Kaitlin Korf rounded out the Scots’ first day performances with a 101 and a 103.

At the end of the first round, Monmouth would be tied with Augustana, both teams shooting +59 for the day.

On Saturday, the Scots were looking to take home the team win. Hoekstra once again led the Scots as she shot an 86 for round two. She combined to shoot a 162 for the weekend which gave her a second place finish at the invite. Gonet was right behind Hoekstra on day two with an 88 as she placed fifth.

Monmouth’s best round of the day came from Ambrosch as she shot an 83 and moved up three places from the first day, finishing in seventh. Worner replicated her round one performance with another 101 on Saturday, placing her 32nd at the meet. Augustana also had a great second round, but Monmouth was able to get the win by one stroke over the Vikings.

“I was pleased to see our team improve and have some of them improve their personal bests,” said head coach Ashley Sims. “As a whole we are continuing to work hard, shave strokes and improve our play so that we are prepared for the conference championship.”

The Fighting Scots will head to Normal, IL on Saturday to compete in the Illinois Wesleyan University Invite.
