After suffering a loss, the Fighting Scots’ women’s soccer team came back with perseverance in their next two games.

Despite suffering a heart-breaking loss to Simpson, the Scots bounced back against Greenville College in yet another entertaining game. The Scots defense did their job exceptionally well by stopping Greenville throughout the match which led to senior Diana Salamanca scoring the Scot’s first goal in the 44th minute.

Within the first minute of the second half, freshman Hannah Kugler scored another excellent goal and scored a second goal seven minutes later in the match making the score 3-0.

Taking an excellent pass from junior Hannah Lingle, Salamanca scored her second goal in the 68th minute putting the game in the bag for the Scots. Making eight saves, freshman Kensey Arlt stopped Greenville from putting the ball in the back of the net.

After their win against Greenville, the Scots went on to face off against Buena Vista University in their most exciting match of the week. Early in the match Buena Vista scored putting the Scots down, but from a great lead pass from sophomore McKayla Shaw to sophomore Jacie Reis, the Scots scored a late goal in the 86th minute forcing the match into overtime.

Taking advantage of their game-saving goal, Shaw again fed Reis for a 96th minute game-winning goal tilting the game into the Scots’ favor. Goalkeeper Kensey Arlt again had a great performance in net with five saves.

Rookie goalkeeper Kensey Arlt had this to say about the Scot’s performance this week, “we showed a lot of heart in our games this past week, grinding to win these two games really kept our spirits high.”

The Fighting Scots’ women’s soccer team is on a two-game win streak and they plan in capitalizing on this momentum. Monmouth will host two games this weekend. They will face off against Ripon College on Saturday and St. Norbert College on Sunday.
