Golf places 13th in tournament

The men’s golf team traveled to Galena Illinois this weekend to play in the Midwest Region Classic. In a tournament that featured 35 teams, the Scots finished in 13th place after gaining some ground on the field during the second day.

On day one of the tournament, the Fighting Scots would get solid scores from their top-three players. Nate Hopper, Nate Monroe, and Logan Moothart would all come in with first-round scores of 79.

Luke Long would post a fourth score of 86 on the first day while Sam Gillen came in with an 87. After the first day, the Scots would be sitting in 17th place, shooting a team score of 323, and looking to improve their first-round scores.

On day two, the men would tee off in the afternoon at Galena’s North Course. Monmouth would improve by three strokes, firing a 320 to jump forward four spots into 13th position.

On the second day of the tournament, Nate Hopper improved by three strokes shooting a 76, while Nate Monroe bettered his first round score by four strokes, carding a team-low 75. Logan Moothart (84) and Luke Long (85) would round out the top four scores for the Scots.

Nate Monroe and Nate Hopper finished in the top 15 for individuals for the tournament with Monroe finishing tied for 10th and Hopper sliding in tied for 14th.

The Scots would finish ahead of three out of the four other Midwest Conference teams at the tournament. Lake Forest would place 6th to lead all Midwest conference teams.

The men take the week off before they travel to Decatur on September 29 and 30th for the Hopkins Golf Classic.
