Women’s golf defeats Lady Blues

The Fighting Scots faced off against Illinois College in a head to head golf match this past Saturday afternoon. The women put on a good showing and defeat conference rivals by one stroke.

Monmouth would shoot a final score of 360 topping the Lady Blues. Haley Hoekstra would tie for 1st place shooting a solid round of 84 at Gibson Woods 5,815 yard course. It was Illinois College’s Madi Peyton that challenged Hoekstra for the number one spot.

For the Scot’s they would also receive scoring rounds from freshman Mamie Ambrosch, with a total of 88. Senior Carly Gonet would take fifth place in the contest, firing a 91. The Scot’s fourth score would come from freshman Kristen Worner tallying a 97.

The women will travel to Rockford this weekend for their Midwest Conference Preview. The Scot’s are tied for second in team scoring with an average of 349.8 while Grinnell leads the conference with a scoring average of 312.2.

Haley Hoekstra is fifth in individual scoring in the conference with a round average of 82.5. Monmouth is having a program-best year at the moment with a team average of 349.75, which would surpass the programs previous best team scoring an average of 359.33 in the 2013-14 season.

After the Midwest Conference Preview the Scots will have five days to prepare for the Midwest Conference Women’s Golf Championship. That meet will also be held in Rockford from Oct. 6-Oct. 8.
