Men’s golf continues to improve

October 6, 2017

The Fighting Scots traveled to Decatur, Illinois for the Hopkins Golf Classic hosted by Millikin University. The men would tee it off on Friday at the Country Club of Decatur and would fire a score of 325 as a team placing them in 16th place out of twenty teams competing over the weekend.

Nate Hopper would lead the team on Friday with a score of 79, followed by an 80 from Nate Monroe along with an 81 from Logan Moothart. Sophomore Sam Gillen would also contribute to the team’s score with an 85 at the Country Club.

On Saturday, the team would play Red Tail Run where they would drop in the rankings a couple of spots to finish 18th overall during the weekend. The men would shoot 330 on Saturday giving them a total score of 655, led by Logan Moothart’s impressive 77.

Junior Nate Monroe would keep things consistent firing another 80. Nate Hopper would drop a few strokes, carding an 83 while Luke Long rounded out the top four scores with a 90.

Senior Nate Hopper seems optimistic about where the team stands entering the end of their fall season. “We lost a lot of good talent last year, and we knew coming into the year that some guys would need to step up. A lot of guys have stepped up and we just all need to continue to get better and better to be ready for the spring.” The men’s golf team only returned eight of last year’s 14 guys.
