Volleyball takes down Eureka

The Fighting Scots’ volleyball team had an eventful string of games this past week with matches against Eureka, St. Norbert, Lake Forest, and MacMurray College.

The Scots had a strong start to their week of matches with a 3-0 sweep over Eureka in “The Devil’s Den”. Sophomore Ashely Farris set a new program record with supplying the Scots with 21 Kills as the Scots rallied in sets one and three of the match. The first set of the match was led by Eureka 25-25, but the Scots rallied for a 28-26 set win. Like set one, the Scots came from behind in set three and prevailed with a 27-25 win closing the match in the Scots’ favor.

Continuing their road trip, the scots traveled to St. Norbert to challenge the Green Knights. Again, Ashely Farris led the Scots with 10 kills, but the Scots fell just Short in set one with a score of 25-21. Again, the Scots pushed through set two but fell 25-23. Trying to find momentum in set three, the Scots rallied but still fell to the Green Knights with a score of 25-22.

The Scots then traveled to Lake Forest to challenge the Foresters. The Scots took an early two-set lead but couldn’t capitalize a win for set three and ultimately fell 3-2 to the Foresters. The Scots’ first two sets were won with ease with scores of 25-22 and 25-20 but the Foresters fought back to win three straight sets. Ashely Farris had 9 kills and freshman Abby Tucker had a team high of 12 kills.

Coming off two hard fought losses, the Scots could come back and beat the MacMurray Highlanders. The Scots were led by freshmen duo Riley Cook and Abby Tucker who combined a total of 23 kills. The Scots Dropped the first set 25-22 but were able to bounce back in set two with a 29-27 win capitalizing off Riley Cook’s back-to-back kills.

Monmouth hopes to add to this winning streak on Friday night against Knox College.
