Soccer teams end regular season

November 3, 2017

The men’s and women’s soccer teams spent their last weekend of the regular season in Grinnell, Iowa in a conference matchup against the Pioneers.

The women’s team kicked off first playing for a chance at the 3-seed in the Conference Tournament next weekend in St. Norbert. In the frigid conditions, Grinnell broke the deadlock in the 34th minute to gain a 1-0 advantage.

The Scots controlled the game in the second half, firing off seven of their game total ten shots. Unable to find the equalizer, Grinnell held on for the win and earned their spot in the Conference Tournament.

The women will compete for a spot the Conference Championship in De Pere, Wisconsin in a semi-final matchup against the #1 seeded host St. Norbert at 2 PM on Friday, November 3rd. The winner will take on the winner of Knox/Grinnell on November 4th.

The men’s team wrapped up their season after the conclusion of the women’s game. Senior keeper Chase Stroud was solid in his last game for the Scots, turning in eight saves in a strong performance.

The Scots, however, were unable to keep the Pioneers out of the net in the first half, conceding the first goal in the 12th minute. A stretch of solid play was broken when Grinnell netted their second goal of the day in the 75th minute.

Monmouth tried to rally late when sophomore Roble Mohammed placed a through ball to sophomore Lucas Sondgeroth who found the back of the net with 3:40 left on the clock. Monmouth came up just short in their final game of the season losing 2-1 and finished with an overall record of 3-13-2 and 2-5-2 in MWC play.
