Swim team competes in Halloween Invitational

The Fighting Scots swim team had a great second meet at the Illinois Wesleyan University Halloween Invitational this past weekend.

The men’s team had multiple first and second place finishes. In the individual races, the Scots took first in the 200-yard backstroke where freshman Preston Bocchi clocked a time of 2:04.88. In the 500-yard freestyle, sophomore Rik Doornenbal swam a 5:14.57, and in the 200-yard butterfly, senior Riley Hess clocked a 2:22.71.

Second place finishes consisted of junior Logan Hoepfner clocking a 54.06 in his 100-yard freestyle, Doornenbal with a 2:00.15 finish in his 200-yard freestyle, and senior Tom Cangelosi with a time of 2:36.15 in his 200-yard breaststroke. The men also took first in two relays: the 500-yard freestyle relay with senior RL Aldridge, Hoepfner, Bocchi, and Doornenbal with a time of 4:33.15, and in the 200-yard medley relay with Bocchi, Cangelosi, Hess, and Hoepfner with a time of 1:45.65.

On the women’s side, the Scots had multiple fourth and fifth place finishes, and one-third place finish. For individual events, freshman Miranda Pasky finished third in her 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:46.64. Sophomore Emily Mathews finished fourth in her 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:01.56, and sophomore Morgan Abraham finished fifth in her 200-yard freestyle clocking a time of 2:21.42.

The women also took fourth in the 300-yard backstroke relay with senior Kaila Heitter, freshman Rylee Mann, and Mathews clocking a time of 3:44.64, in the 300-yard breaststroke relay with senior Michelle Nafziger, Heitter, and Pasky finishing with a time of 4:00.10, and in the 200-yard medley relay with Mathews, Pasky, sophomore Brittany Lira, and Mann clocking a time of 2:07.42. They also took fifth in the 200-yard freestyle relay with Lira, Mann, Pasky, and Mathews clocking a time of 1:53.63.

The team’s next meet is November 11th at home at 1 PM, so be sure to come out and support!
