Swim teams place 3rd, 4th at home invite

The Fighting Scots swim team had yet another strong finish in their second home meet this past Saturday against Grinnell College, Illinois College, and Lake Forest College. The men took third place and the women took fourth place overall. The team swam a total of 20 events with 16 of those containing season best times.

On the men’s side, in the 200-yard medley relay, consisting of freshman Preston Bocchi, senior Tom Cangelosi, senior Riley Hess, and junior Logan Hoepfner, they took third with a time of 1:43.26. Sophomore Rik Doornenbal finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle clocking a time of 1:53.06 as well as second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:12.34. Freshman Preston Bocchi took sixth in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:08.90 as well as finishing in second place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 55.91. In the 50-yard freestyle, juniors Logan Hoepfner and Jake Hall finished third and sixth clocking times of 23.03 and 23.24. In the 100-yard breaststroke, Cangelosi and Hoepfner took sixth and seventh, respectively, clocking times of 1:07.71 and 1:08.45. Hoepfner, Hall, Hess, and Bocchi closed the meet finishing in third place in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:25.77.

On the women’s side, in the 200-yard medley relay, consisting of sophomore Emily Mathews, freshman Miranda Pasky, sophomore Brittany Lira, and freshman Rylee Mann, they finished fourth with a time of 2:05.09. In the 200-yard individual medley, Mathews finished fifth clocking a time of 2:30.41. In the 500-yard freestyle, sophomore Morgan Abraham finished ninth with a time of 6:22.72. In the 100-yard backstroke, Mathews and senior Kaila Heiter finished seventh and tenth, respectively, clocking times of 1:10.18 and 1:15.60. In the 100 yard breaststroke, Pasky finished second with a time of 1:13.88 and senior Michelle Nafziger finished seventh with a time of 1:20.33. Lira, Mann, Mathews, and Pasky closed the meet with a third place finish in the 400-yard relay with a time of 4:09.41.

The team’s next meet is Friday, November 17th in the Pepper Natatorium at 6 p.m, so be sure to come out and support!
