Monmouth College has plenty of student organizations and extracurricular activities to get involved with. With almost too many to keep track of, we want to highlight the purpose and ambitions of each group, in hopes to spread recognition and information so in the future more Scots can join in the fun!

In the spotlight this week is Colorful Voices of Praise or CVoP. A faith based gospel organization at Monmouth College, CVoP is comprised of a gospel choir, dance team, and mime dance team. According to President Courtney Kent, the goal of the group is to “witness the greatness of the Lord Jesus Christ, while striving to lead others to Him, through way of music, song, and dance.”

Performing at several events throughout the academic year, Colorful Voice of Praise stays relevant in the campus community. Each year there are two major events. The gospel showcase is held in the fall semester, where they display their multiple talents. It also allows for other students to showcase their talents “in a positive and uplifting way,” says Kent. Then, during the spring semester, CVoP holds a Gospel Explosion, “where we minister to the campus and community while celebrating Black History Month.” But that’s not all. The student organized group performs at several other campus events including the Martin Luther King convocation in January, Relay for Life, and Take Back the Night. With Black History Month upon us, Gospel Explosion is set to take place on Saturday, February 24th at 7PM in Dahl Chapel. Happening every February, they invite all to attend in help celebrating this historic month with the big show!

With three different units making up the group, the Executive Board works closely with Intercultural Life and advisor, Regina Johnson. Currently in shadowing period, the newly elected executive board members are training for their new positions that they will take on next school year. Consisting of the President and dance director Courtney Kent, Vice President Mariah Cole, Secretary Kary Lindsey, Treasurer Cierra Coleman, Event Planner Kyra Williams and ASMC Representative Chazzity Short, the group works cohesively with other members like Jutoria Aaron who acts as the choir and mime director.

If anyone is interested in joining this honorable organization, CVoP is always open to welcoming new members. Plus, no auditions are necessary! Email Courtney Kent for more information or drop in to their next rehearsal held on Thursdays at 9PM in Austin Hall.
