Water polo goes 3-0 on the weekend

March 16, 2018

This past weekend the Fighting Scots’ women’s water polo team traveled to New London, CT for the Connecticut College Tournament. The Scots won all three games they played in the tournament, improving to 3-3 on the season.

The Scots first game was on Saturday against Grove City College. Monmouth used a four-goal second quarter to pull ahead of Grove City 6-1 at the half.

Monmouth scored four more goals in the second half and only allowed three total goals for the whole game. Becca Dabrowski and Rachel Unger combined for six of Monmouth’s ten goals as the Scots came away with a 10-3 victory to begin the weekend.

Monmouth’s second game of the tournament against Connecticut College was a bit tougher. Dabrowski made all four of Monmouth’s first-half goals, but Connecticut College would have a one-goal lead at the half.

Each team would score a goal in the third quarter and the Scots would head into the final quarter down by one. Four players scored goals for the Scots in the fourth quarter though and Monmouth would get a come from behind win 9-7.

Monmouth’s final game of the tournament was against Utica College. The Scots would only lead 3-1 at the end of the first half, but their offense would step it up in the second half of the game.

Dabrowski added three second-half goals, giving herself four for the game and twelve for the tournament. Freshman Miranda Pasky also added two goals for the game as the Scots won their final game of the weekend 8-2.

After a very successful weekend in Connecticut, the Fighting Scots will have a weekend off from the competition. They will be back in action on Saturday, March 24th for the Monmouth Tournament. The tournament kicks off at 10 AM as Monmouth takes on Macalester College.
