Fighting Scots take on MSOE Raiders

April 6, 2018

The Fighting Scots’ men’s lacrosse team was back in action this past Wednesday against Milwaukee School of Engineering. MSOE came in with an 8-1 record while Monmouth entered the game with at 5-4.

The first six and a half minutes of the game saw no scoring, but MSOE finally broke through with 8:20 left in the first quarter to take a 1-0 lead. A little less than four minutes later the Raiders added another goal to take a two-goal lead heading into the second quarter.

Monmouth cut into the lead four minutes into the second quarter when Freshman Mitch Perez picked up a ground ball and passed it off to Braden Cross who netted the Scots first goal of the game. With 6:21 left in the half the Scots tied the game up with a goal from Thomas Van Alstine.

MSOE would take control to end the half though, scoring four goals in the final five minutes of the half. Monmouth would head into the break losing 6-2.

The Scots would start the second half off strong as sophomore Croy Seagren pulled Monmouth within three goals with plenty of time left for a comeback. Ten seconds after Seagren’s score, MSOE came right back and increased the lead to 7-3.

Scoring would halt for over eight minutes, but the Raiders would close the final three and a half minutes of the third quarter with two goals. MSOE would be leading 9-3 as the game went to the fourth quarter.

In the final quarter, MSOE would score four straight goals to put the game out of reach, but in the final minute, Jeff Knapp would add a final goal for the Scots. MSOE took the away victory against Monmouth 13-4.

The Fighting Scots’ next game will be at Concordia University on April 7th. Opening faceoff will be at 12 PM as Monmouth looks to get their record above .500.
