Scots face IC in doubleheader

April 16, 2018

Monmouth dropped a pair of games to the Lady Blues on Tuesday, bringing to a halt their four-game win streak. The timely hit eluded the Scots who, despite getting runners on, just couldn’t find the extra one to bring them home.

In the Midwest Conference double header, Illinois College took Game one by a final tally of 3-0, holding the Scots to just three hits, but still managed to get plenty of runners on. IC managed a single earned run in the first inning of the opener.

They then retired the first 11 Monmouth hitters that came to the dish before Becca Gallis chopped up the no-hit bid with a single. IC added an unearned in the fifth and scored one more in the sixth to reach the final score for Game one.

In the late game, the Scots dropped a 6-1 loss to the Lady Blues despite putting runners on in all but two innings of the game. The Scots were dangerous late in Game 2 but only mustered up a single run in the fourth. Gallis led off the inning with a walk, Savannah Ball wore a pitch to reach, and both were moved over in a bit of small ball in from Megan Corniels’ sacrifice bunt.

Gallis was brought home when Kaylee Kurtz sac flew for the only Monmouth RBI of the day. Two of the Lady Blues’ runs came in the bottom of the first on a two-out base hit and the other four runs, which were all unearned, were piled on later in the game.

Monmouth travels to Wisconsin this weekend for MWC games at Ripon and St. Norbert.
