Alpha Xi Delta held their annual formal dance last Saturday at the Rivoli Theater in Monmouth. “Take a Chance and Roll Xi Dice” was their clever theme name and consisted of a casino-inspired evening. The older venue’s decorating was led by the organization’s very own Alex Barrett, who filled the room with jumbo playing cards, giant dice, poker chips, banners, twinkle lights, and an unbelievable amount of glitter. Activities at the formal included mini golf, a photo booth, and of course, non-stop dancing. Alpha Xi Delta senior, Mary Kate Luzzo, claimed that “The food was bomb,” and freshman, Kensey Arlt, agreed with her that the macaroni and cheese was some of the best.

Kensey already looks forward to next year’s formal after Saturday night’s dance created a long list of memories. “I love dances, so I had high expectations going into formal and it totally blew me away.” Kensey said that the evening was nothing short of “stunning and memorable” for her very first Alpha Xi spring formal. Her favorite memory is singing her heart out to “Bohemian Rhapsody” and being her crazy self alongside her closest friends. While for Kensey the night was full of firsts, senior Alpha Xi Delta members had a different outlook on the night.

As Mary Kate reluctantly enters her last month as a Monmouth College student, she said that formal “…was an amazing way to begin the end of [her] senior year activities.” While this was her fourth and final Alpha Xi formal dance, she admits that it was probably “…the best compared to all the formals…” and that the best part of the night was jamming to one of her favorite songs, Mr. Brightside. Mary Kate said the evening was very sentimental to her because she knows her final undergrad year is coming to a close, but she is so thankful for the memories that the night made.

Both Alpha Xi Delta members, Mary Kate and Kensey, believe that formal is an essential part of a sororities yearly activities because it allows the women time to relax, have fun with friends, and make memories that will last a lifetime.
