Women’s lacrosse defeat Benedictine

April 16, 2018

Over the weekend of April 7 and 8, the Fighting Scots women’s lacrosse tallied marks in the win and loss columns.

The first match of the weekend Monmouth got behind early and could not catch up. Aurora University scored five unanswered goals before the Scots responded with one of their own.

The goal by Kara-Jade Gordon did little to stop the run put on by the Spartans. Aurora scored seven more goals in the opening half, going to the halftime break up 12-3.

In the second half, Monmouth was unable to rally back as they were shut out by the Spartans. Aurora added five more goals to their lead, winning the match by a final of 17-3.

In the second match of the weekend, the Scots found more success scoring than in the previous game. Monmouth struck early, scoring an unassisted goal by Amanda Green within the first thirty seconds of play. A minute later, Lexi Tibbs scored followed by a third Scots goal by Tiana Cintron for a 3-0 lead.

Throughout the rest of the first half, Benedictine and Monmouth went back and forth exchanging goals until Amanda Green and Kara-Jade Gordon netted a pair of goals for the Scots. Monmouth went to halftime with a 7-3 lead.

During the second half, Benedictine and Monmouth exchanged seven goals apiece as the Scots claimed a 14-10 victory.

After the weekend action, women’s lacrosse moves to 2-7 on the season with 1-3 record in conference play. This weekend, April 14 and 15, the Scots will host a pair of home matches against Concordia University Chicago and Augsburg College.
