Scots pick up three wins at Greenville

Competing for just the second time this outdoor season, the Monmouth College men’s track team took fourth and the women placed ninth at the 17-team Greenville Select meet this past Saturday.

Vaughn Gentzler was the first of three victories for the Fighting Scots, clocking a 14.99 in the 110 Hurdles to win by 13 one-hundredths. Gentzler also took third in the 400 hurdles in 57.37.

Dan Evers cleared 17’0-3/4” to win by nearly 2’ to claim the second of the three victories in the pole vault.

John Hintz claimed the third victory with a win in the hammer throw and a runner-up in the discus. Hintz won the hammer with a mark of 170’. A 151’11” was enough for Hintz to claim runner-up in the discus. Joe Krall was also fifth in the hammer with a personal-best 160’.

Monmouth’s men’s throwers took three of the top seven spots in the shot put where Krall heaved the ball 45’8” to finish fourth, just ahead of Hintz at 44’11”. Drew Thaxton took seventh at 42’11-3/4”.

Gentzler, Stone Darrow, Darius Williams and Chandler Diehl clocked a 42.66 in the 4×100, less than a second off the top time to earn third place.

It was a fourth-place finish for Tyler Bland in the steeplechase, clocking a 10:04.24. Lucas Sondgeroth had a mark of 148’3” to earn a seventh-place finish in the Javelin throw.

Madi Schulenberg led the women’s scoring with two top-eight finishes. The senior cleared 4’11” to place third in the high jump and threw 107’ feet in the javelin. Lilly Mendez placed eighth in the shot put with a 39’4-1/2” effort.

Amy Wollenburg had the fourth best time on the day in the women’s steeplechase. The senior ran the race in a time of 12:15.96.

Caitlyn Allen and Julie Sterr also added distance event points. Allen clocked a 5:04.55 for a sixth-place finish in the 1500 and Sterr was eighth in the 5K at 20:26.61.

In the sprints, Cynthia Myers’ 400 dash time of 1:01.76 placed her fifth. Blessed Smith finished sixth in the 100 where she ran a 12.99, a half-second out of first.

Monmouth will compete this weekend at Saturday’s Augustana Meet of Champions.
