April 27, 2018

Last weekend, the men’s golf team traveled to Sherman, Illinois to play The Rail in the Illinois College Blueboy Invite. The teams showed consistency over the two-day tournament, shooting 316 on Friday and 317 on Saturday. They would finish 7th out of eleven teams at the tournament.

Senior Nate Hopper scored the lowest on both days for Monmouth, carding a 77 each day, tying 19th overall. Logan Moothart would also post two really good rounds of 78 each day placing 27th overall.

Senior Luke Long would card his best round of the season on Friday coming in with an 80, while Sam Gillen would round out the top four with a score of 81 on Friday. Monmouth finished one stroke better than fellow Midwest Conference team Illinois College and fell to Knox College by 18 strokes.

The men would have a quick turnaround and travel to Rockford on Sunday to play in a Midwest Conference Preview at Aldeen Golf Course. The Scots would struggle a little on their third straight day of golf but still put up a solid showing for the preview while shooting 342, fifteen strokes behind both Illinois College and Knox College.

Moothart lead the way for the Scots on Sunday. The senior shot an 82 on the day, which tied him for eighth place. Nate Monroe and Nate Hopper would post solid performances as well, shooting 85 and 87 respectively.

Luke Long rounded out the Scots top four performances with an 88 while Mason Ely, Sam Gillen, and Braden Williams all shot 90 for their rounds.

This upcoming weekend the Scots will host the Monmouth College Fighting Scot Invite at Gibson Woods Golf Course in Monmouth Illinois.
